Fr. Damen's Impact on Chicago
Fr. Damen remained pastor of Holy Family Parish until 1877. In two decades in Chicago, he founded many institutions:
- Holy Family Parish church
- Sacred Heart Church
- Eight elementary schools serving 6,000 students
- Convent high school for girls
- Parish hall
- Home for working girls
- School for the deaf at St. Joseph’s Home
- College for young men (St. Ignatius College)
