Herr's research achievements were recognized by numerous organizations including Delta Epsilon Sigma, the national scholastic honor society of Catholic universities (1944); Society of Sigma Xi, the scientific research honor society (1960); Pi Gamma Mu, the honor society for the social sciences (1961); and Member of the New York Academy of Sciences (1964).
Herr was also an active member of several other professional bodies including the Chicago Psychological Association; Illinois Psychological Association; American Psychological Association; American Psychiatric Association; Catholic Philosophical Association; and Chicago Society of Catholic Psychologists.
