In 1962, Loyola became the first American University to establish a study center in Rome, Italy.

The Loyola University Rome Center of Liberal Arts is the largest American study program in Europe.

The center, located on Monte Mario, highest of the seven hills overlooking the city of Rome, offers American students the opportunity to live for a year in the Roman culture without interrupting their regular college programs.
