During 1941, the Rev. C. J. Doyle, S.J., set up the Loyola University Guidance Center, an outpatient clinic offering service to emotionally troubled children and their parents.

Using the skills of psychiatry, clinical psychology, social work and speech pathology, the center, which is now located on the Lake Shore campus, offers help to children of all races, creeds, or color and to their parents.

The center also serves as a training facility for psychiatric residents, clinical psychologists, and psychiatric social workers. A considerable number of professionals who counsel children throughout the Chicago area received their training at the Center, which has aided more than 10,000 children since its founding.
