St. Ignatius College hired Egan and Prindevill Architects to design and oversee construction of the academy building. Construction began in 1906, but various issues slowed the process over the next two years. Architect James J. Egan oversaw construction and wrote several letters to Fr. Dumbach highlighting the persistent problems with the contractors, inlcuding incompetence and general slowness by the workers. In his letters, Egan complained that the workers often failed to follow the architect's instructions in laying the foundation and building other parts of the structure. These issues slowed construction considerably.

The building was finally completed in August 1909, and Fr. James A. McCarthy, S.J., was made superior of the community and the Academy's first principal.
