Ferdinand Coosemans, S.J. (1823-1878))
President, 1872-1874
The second president of Loyola, Father Coosemans launched an expansion program which resulted in more space and physical equipment for the new school, more faculty members, and a revised programs of studies. Print to the presidency of Loyola, Father Coosemans was president of St.Joseph's College in Bardstown, Kentucky, then president of St. Louis University, and vice-provincial of the Missouri Province. A man of great zeal and piety, Father Coosemans was paralyzed by a stroke in 1874 and died on February 7, 1878.
