John DeBlieck, S.J. (1821-1883)
President, 1874-1877
Father DeBlieck was a man of extraordinary mental ability and a gifted preacher. He was rector of St. Xavier College in Cincinnati, Ohio, and St. Joseph's College in Bardstown, Kentucky, before coming to Chciago in 1865. He became the third president of Loyola, serving from 1874 to 1877. In 1877, he gave missions in New Mexico and California and then came back to Loyola in 1880 to teach newly ordained priests.
