James T. Hussey, S.J. (1904-1977)
President, 1945-1955
Father Hussey served as an instructor at Loyola University, Chicago, from 1939 to 1943, and as dean of men, director of athletics and regent of the dental school from 1943 to 1945. In 1945, he became the nineteenth president of the university. His administration saw a period of substantial expansion for the university, which included construction of a student recreation hall and a $1.5 million dormitory at the Lake Shore Campus, and the development of the medical school at 706 S. Wolcott Avenue on Chicago's near west side.
