Beth talks of being constantly busy with her studies, yet finding time to participate in Student Government—first as a representative and then as the Vice President in her senior year. She also shares memories of participating in the chorus, Mundelein Review, and the talent show. Beth also talked about working for the wonderful Carmen Fernandez in the Alumnae Office where she filed papers, made phone calls, and sent out mailings. Biography

Elizabeth “Beth” A. Pfordresher Havey is the middle of three children, one older and one younger brother, who were raised on the south side of Chicago by their mother. Beth’s family put high value in reading and music due to her well-educated aunts’ working in publishing, her mother’s participation in chorus, and her older brother’s love of music. This led to her majoring in English and minoring in education when she was a student at Mundelein. She graduated in 1969.
She participated in Student Government and was the Vice President of her Senior Class. Beth also published in the Mundelein College Review, was in the chorus, and performed the Sound of Silence with Barbara Valli for the talent show. As part of the Student Work Program, Beth worked for Carmen Fernandez in the Alumnae Office for all four years. She lived on the 3rd floor of Coffey Hall for all four years and valued the connections she made with those on her floor.
After graduation, she taught high school English at Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights, married her high school sweetheart, and had three amazing children and three grandchildren. Beth earned her Nursing Degree from Prairie State College in 1993; worked at Mercy Hospital and St. James Hospital in Labor and Delivery. In Des Moines, Iowa, she worked for the Polk County Health Department. Currently, Elizabeth is a writer. She has published one collection of stories and has other projects in the works.
