Soccer
Women's soccer first began at Loyola as a club sport in 1983. Organized by Mary Ann Noonan, an assistant professor at the Niehoff School of Nursing, the club team was responsible for funding itself, inlcuding travel fees and uniforms. Nine years later the team transitioned from a club sport to NCAA Divison I. This not only allowed for school sponsorship of the women's soccer program, but also drew in top soccer players.
Under the helm of head coach Amy Freeman in the inaugural 1992 season, the team finished with a record of 2-16-1. This team was made up of players from the previous club team, as well as freshman recruits. There were even other varsity athletes on the inaugural team, like track star Rickie Green.
While the inaugural team struggled with inexperience on the field, the team continued to focus on positivity and comradery. By the 1996 season, the team had improved to a record of 4-14.
In the team's twenty-six year history as a NCAA Divison I program, they have made four NCAA Tournament appearances in 2003, 2006, 2007, & 2018.
The 2018 season was very successful for the Ramblers. They finished the season as the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Regular Season Champions, going on to win the MVC Tournament Championship and making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in eleven years. In the NCAA tournament, the Ramblers faced off against top-seeded Florida State losing 1-0 in the first round.
