Description

(top) Header to article, which reads "Jesuits Ready for War. Rev. A. A. Lambert and Rev. J. P. De Smet Will Serve as Chaplains."

Reverend A. A. Lambert and Reverend J. P. De Smet, Jesuit fathers at St. Ignatius College, volunteered to act as chaplains in the army soon to invade Cuba during the Spanish-American War. It was a custom to appoint chaplains of the same religious domination as the majority of a particular regiment's members, and as many army volunteers were Catholic, it was expected that both members of the clergy would be called up soon.
