Item

Title

Casket with the Remains of a Combination Lock

Description

Al -Jazari invented the first even padlock combination chest, as seen in his book. This chest and it's mechanical interworkings mirror those in al-Jazari's book, and is thought to have been made using his blueprint. Made of brass, sheet and cast, with a silver inlay, the combination chest was not only the most secure form of a lock, but also an engineering milestone in history. (aerial view)
