Welcome

Welcome to Celebrating Loyola's Nurse Veterans, a series of digital exhibits honoring the military service of alumni and faculty of Loyola's School of Nursing, including graduates from Loyola's original six affiliated schools of nursing, in both war and peace time. This first exhibit celebrates the service of Nursing alumni and faculty who served during the World War II era. Future exhibits will tell the stories of Loyola Nursing alumni and faculty who served in the Korea War era, Vietnam conflict era, the Middle East, and in numerous peacetime and humanitarian missions.

The exhibit was created in 2024 by Kathy Young, University Archivist, in collaboration with Diana Hackbarth, RN, PhD, Karen Egenes, RN, EdD, and Mary Ann McDermott, RN, EdD, faculty emeriti of the Niehoff School of Nursing at Loyola University Chicago. It is based in part on Dr. Egenes' research on the 108th General Hospital Unit as well as records from the Loyola University Chicago Archives.
