After Graduation
, Ted Gorey participated in a piano recital by pupils of Eulalia Kober Stade at the Woman’s Club of Wilmette. He played Asa’s Death and Sailor’s Song by Edvard Grieg. Gorey’s ability to play the piano was not known until the program for this piano recital was recently discovered in the Edward Gorey Charitable Trust archives.
According to Elizabeth Tamny: “By the time he left Chicago for Harvard his family had had at least 12 addresses: two in Hyde Park, five in Rogers Park, two in Wilmette, one in Evanston, one on the near north side, and one in Lakeview.” Elizabeth M. In 1936 his parents divorced and his father later married Corinna Mura, a singer and guitarist. His parents remarried in 1952.
After graduating from Stolp School in 1937, his mother takes him on a trip to visit relatives in Ohio and Florida.
