1980 The School of Social Work moves into the old Law School building at 41 E. Pearson, which is re-named Siedenburg Hall on the School's 65th anniversary.

1982 Loyola University Medical Center's bone marrow transplant program is initiated. Halas Sports Center opens at Lake Shore Campus.

1983 The School of Dentistry graduates its 10,000th student. The Edward Crown Center for the Humanities building is completed.

1984 The Loyola Medical Center performs its first heart transplant. The Institute for Health Law is established.
- 1985 Loyola's Men's Basketball team makes it to the NCAA Tournament, Sweet Sixteen Round. Lost to Georgetown.

1988 Loyola opens a cardiac intensive care unit; the Loyola Lifestar, an aero medical service, is started; and Loyola Medical Center performs its 100th heart transplant.
- 1989 Loyola Athletics eliminates Water Polo team due to cost.
