  • 1980 The School of Social Work moves into the old Law School building at 41 E. Pearson, which is re-named Siedenburg Hall on the School's 65th anniversary.

  • 1982 Loyola University Medical Center's bone marrow transplant program is initiated. Halas Sports Center opens at Lake Shore Campus.

  • 1983 The School of Dentistry graduates its 10,000th student. The Edward Crown Center for the Humanities building is completed. 

  • 1984 The Loyola Medical Center performs its first heart transplant. The Institute for Health Law is established.

  • 1985 Loyola's Men's Basketball team makes it to the NCAA Tournament, Sweet Sixteen Round. Lost to Georgetown.
  • 1988 Loyola opens a cardiac intensive care unit; the Loyola Lifestar, an aero medical service, is started; and Loyola Medical Center performs its 100th heart transplant.

  • 1989 Loyola Athletics eliminates Water Polo team due to cost.
