In the 1960s he did illustrations for advertisements for the brokerage firm Francis I. duPont and Co, Houghton Mifflin, and Lambert Brothers.
In the mid 1970s, he did illustrations in The New Yorker for full page ads for the New York department store B. Altman and Co.
In 1988, Gorey did an illustration for the Portland Maine booksellers Carlson & Turner.
