Constructed as a vital part of mosque architecture to call the prayer (adhan), the minaret of the Kutubiyya Mosque interconnects the two prayer halls on site while serving as a symbol of establishment, community, and power within the city of Marrakech, Morocco. Built by the Almohad dynasty, the minaret was a key indicator of Almohad dominance due to its grand height and appearance as well as its establishment of Islamic faith. The Kutubiyya mosque and its architectural structures not only establish religious and political dominance but install the community’s deep value for reading and literature. Nonetheless, the minaret of the Kutubiyya mosque inaugurates the values and traditions within the Almohad dynasty, and the people of Marrakech.
